QUEEN'S GARDEN PARTY SLIC, GLMW & GLSW members were invited to go to the Queen's Garden Party on the 18th July 2006. The reason SLIC & GLMW got involded in helping with the Queen's Garden Party was that Greater London South West (GLSW) couldn't find enough members to go along and help. What I wanted to know is why would someone want to turn down an invite to go to Buckingham palace?? It was a very intresting day at Buckingham Palace. There was about 5000 people there that had been invited along with the 22 Scouts that had been asked to do the event. We all meet on Buckingham Palace Road at 10:30am outside that back gate. We were taken in to the security office and we had our ID's checked just to prove who we were! We were then escorted to one of the palaces smaller rooms where we were briefed on the days events. Each person was given a job to do. There was wheelchair assistance, general assistance, and guest greaters. The whole day was very hot, but we all seamed to enjoy it. We met some County Commisoners from around the country. We also got to meet the Nepalese Ambassador. At the end of the day we all lined up at the front door to Buckingham Palace and said good bye to all the guests. That seamed to take forever due to the amount of people that had been invited. |
